I’ve just learned that John Lovas has passed away. I’ll write more later on my flight tomorrow. I met John at the last CCCCs in San Francisco and had a delightful conversation with him about teaching and blogging, and he only recently announced his retirement. In light of his passing, John’s final blog entry is even more poignant than it would be otherwise. I wish now that I’d been able to take him up on his invitation for drinks.
If you knew John, please spread the word.
We leave for London in the morning and will be en route until about 4:00 am our time. We’ll land about 10:00. I figure once we take the express from Gatwick to Victoria and catch a cab to our apartment and get checked in, it’ll easily be after noon, which’ll be 6:00 am for us. And you all know what that means: trying to sleep in a hot apartment with no air conditioning.
George says it’s pretty hot right now in London. If it is, I’ll blame him. And George, I’ll be in the British Library on Saturday. You shouldn’t have a hard time identifying me…I’ll be the guy with the laptop. Har har har.
I’ll be in Humanities 1 (albeit without a pint in hand), probably desk 2165 or so. Whatever you do, stay awake on Friday until it is time to go to bed (9 or 10). Walk around outside in the sun, which helps your body adjust to the time zone.
