Edinburgh

Because I can’t seem to stay away from areas where terrorist attacks are happening, I went up to Edinburgh to meet Shelley as she was returning from her conference in Stirling. It wasn’t supposed to be anything fancy—just one night and most of a day away from London.

This is my first time in Edinburgh, and the city is just as stunning as I’d expected. I can see now why one of my professors in grad school used to spend more time here than he needed to. I went to sleep at a decent hour—10:00 PM—last night for the first time since we got to the UK (I’ve been falling asleep at 7:00 PM and waking up at 2:30 AM and then staying up until 5:30 AM and then sleeping until 8:00 AM…things like that) and woke up at the completely respectable hour of 4:30 AM. I tossed and turned until about 6:00, then got up and want for a walk around the neighborhood.

The only real problem with this trip is that it’s raining cats and dogs, so we’re spending a lot of time in the pub looking out the window. But that’s OK. We haven’t seen each other for a solid week, and even though we were trapped in a tiny room in London together for a week before that, it’s nice to be back together.
